ST. JOHN'S COLLEGE, OXFORD ACQUIRE MAJOR OIL PAINTING FROM CAMBURN FINE ART

St. John's College, Oxford has acquired a major oil on canvas by Alan Halliday of 'La Musique' 114cm x 146cm.

'La Musique' represents Orpheus taming the wild animals with the power of music and civilisation. The new library has been built on the site of the old President's Garden. Before the old garden was taken down to make way for the new library, Halliday was commissioned to paint a large picture of it (80cm x 120cm) and this painting now hangs in the Fellows' Senior Common Room in the College.
